Abiding in Christ

In John 15, Jesus teaches us of the importance of abiding/remaining in Christ.  Jesus reminds us that apart from Christ, we can do nothing.  Zechariah 4:6 says, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit," says the Lord Almighty.  God's work can only be done by God.  How easy it is to forget the source of fruit.  The smartest and most effective thing we can do in being fruitful for the King of Kings is to surrender and let God through His Holy Spirit produce fruit through us.  Jesus instructs us in Luke 9:23 "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."  As we surrender/deny ourself, we decrease and the Holy Spirit in us is maximized in us and His resurrection power produces great fruit through our lives.

This reminder that only the Holy Spirit produces fruit in our lives, is what I personally need as I prepare for my upcoming mission trip.  The assignment that the Lord has given us is way too big for us to accomplish.  Our ONLY hope is that Christ does the work for us.  My personal preparation will include much prayer while being honest before God about my heart.  I MUST take my position in Christ by abiding in Him moment by moment and by receiving and activating all the spiritual blessings of Christ that I have in the Holy Spirit.  Without a doubt the effectiveness of our trip is directly related to being with Christ and our 100% reliance on the Holy Spirit.  Apart from Him, I can do nothing but when I abide in Him, I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me.
